HISTORY
NAVAJO
NATION TELECOMMUNICATIONS REGULATORY COMMISSION
The Navajo Nation Regulatory
Commission was fully seated on July 09, 2002. The Advisory Committee of the Navajo Nation Council Resolution
ACMA-36-84 established the Navajo Nation Telecommunications Regulatory
Commission back in 1984. The Navajo Nation Telecommunications Regulatory Code
was then adopted to act upon and regulate any and all matters of the
telecommunications industry on the Navajo Nation. The Commission has the
powers necessary and appropriate as delegated through legislative enactments
by the Government Service Committee of the Navajo Nation Council pursuant to
the inherent power of a government; to protect Navajo public welfare, order
and security, and carry out its purposes and goals.
The Commission is to develop
and adopt a regulatory code subject to Navajo Nation Council enactment, which
will govern any and all Navajo Nation telecommunications activities, not
inconsistent with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation. The
Commission will establish, promulgate and enforce rules, regulations,
policies, and issue order and resolutions, which are consistent with the
Navajo Regulatory Code and the Commission Plan of Operation.

The Commission will establish
methods, procedures, schedules, permits, respective fees and reasonable rates
of compensation for telecommunication services.
The Commission will establish
hearing, investigations procedures and impose fines and other sanctions
according to established schedules for violations of all telecommunication
law, regulations, rules, orders, and policies.
The recently appointed
Commissions are technical professionals whose expertise are in various areas of Information Technology
to include, but are not limited to, engineering, telecommunications,
satellites, computers, networking, technology infrastructure development,
State and Federal Telecommunications Regulatory expertise. The Commission
works in collaboration with the associated states such as the Public Regulatory
Commission to discuss their roles, responsibilities, and jurisdictions and
how they will cooperate with each others.
